Meet the Team

He is deeply committed to the industry's future, actively engaging with vocational schools and contractor organizations to enhance their HVAC education programs. Jon originally began studying to become a biomedical equipment technician at college but quickly shifted his interest to a new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning program that was being offered. For the past 4 years Jon has worked at Stevens Equipment Supply as a technical service manager and spent about 7 years prior to that working for a local HVAC contractor in roles of service technician, installer, and logisticians and operation manager. Mike Dearden, Technical Service & Training Manager - Utah & Nevada

In early 2007, Mike Dearden was in college to become a middle-school English teacher, hoping to make the middle-school experience better for the next generation, but dabbled in HVAC to help support his small family. When his father and brother established a new HVAC company, he joined them full-time and dropped out of college. Despite the hardships of the 2008 recession, the company grew steadily and Mike’s trade experience grew along with it. From Apprenticeship to Installation Tech, Lead Installer to Service Tech, and eventually running the early morning technical training classes for the company, which had grown to employ over 50 people. Mike was most proud to assist the technicians who finally passed their EPA or NATE tests after multiple attempts prior to his tutelage. Though the company was growing, it was not large enough to sustain a full-time training program. When the opportunity arose to become a full-time educator with Stevens Equipment Supply, Mike jumped at the opportunity. He now loves to teach and support new technicians as they begin their journey as tradesmen, as well as experienced technicians as they learn and adapt to the modern expectations of the HVAC trade. He lives in the Salt Lake City area in Utah with his wife, their three teenagers, and a dog. Outside of technical education, Mike enjoys scale modeling and roleplaying games.

Phil Sweren, Technical Service & Training Manager - Colorado

Phil brings 20 years of HVAC experience to the table. He began his career in Texas, working for a small company that specialized in new construction projects, and quickly advanced to a team lead position. The company later partnered with a larger organization, which allowed Phil to work on installing heat recovery VRV systems on military bases across the United States. After moving to Idaho, Phil transitioned into residential service, where he had the opportunity to work under a skilled mentor who helped him sharpen his diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Not long after, Phil relocated to Colorado to help his brother start a residential AOR company. Together, they built the business with a focus on Daikin inverter technology and exceptional customer service. Over an eight-year period, the company earned multiple local "best-of" awards for its outstanding service. Phil joined the Stevens team in Colorado in March of 2023, where he now uses his extensive experience to mentor others. He is committed to making a positive impact on those he supports, inspired by the influence of the mentors who shaped his own career.

Tony Crowley, Technical Service & Training Manager - Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, & South Dakota

Tony has transitioned from his role as Branch Manager to join the Tech Support team. With more than 36 years of experience in the HVAC industry, his journey began at his grandfather’s shop in Michigan. Although he initially pursued a business degree at Central Michigan University, Tony quickly discovered a passion for hands-on work. He progressed from install helper to lead installer and service technician, building a solid foundation of technical expertise. In 2000, Tony moved to Green Bay, where he took on a variety of roles at SES, including installer, service tech, trainer, service manager, and eventually branch manager. He finds the HVAC industry’s constant evolution both challenging and exciting, fueling his passion for staying up-to-date with advancements.
